NCISAA Big East recap Oct. 16, 2012
Harrells Christian Academy moved up to 247 from 274 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in NCISAA Big East. The Crusaders were able to make the jump by besting Village Christian Academy 63-7.
Harrells Christian Academy extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Knights, 63-7. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
North Raleigh Christian Academy's dynamic duo of John Cook and Daniel Rose proved tough for Ravenscroft to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Cook threw for 209 yards and two touchdowns and Rose had 160 yards receiving. Charlie Davisson helped North Raleigh Christian Academy's passing attack out by catching two balls for 25 yards.
Jeff Gemmell made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Knights beat the Ravens. The 6-foot-1 junior racked up two sacks.
Russell Washington was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 240 yards on seven carries as the Crusaders bested Ravenscroft. Teammate Channing Kelly added to the ground attack by rushing for 124 yards.
Rich Landis' team's Cook and Davisson have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading NCISAA Big East in both passing and receiving yards. Cook has thrown for 1670 yards this season, while Davisson, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 27 catches for 623 yards. Harrells Christian Academy's Washington leads the league in rushing yards with 1352.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Fayetteville Christian takes on the Crusaders. As it stands, Fayetteville Christian is in third, while Harrells Christian Academy is in second.
The Knights and Ned Gonet's team played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with the Knights eventually emerging with a 17-14 victory. Cook in the win.
