Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for The Metrolina Christian Academy Warriors, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They had to suffer through a rough 57-14 loss at the hands of Providence Day. Metrolina Christian Academy's defeat continues a unfortunate trend for the squad, making it five in a row.
Despite the loss, Metrolina Christian Academy still got an impressive performance from Matthew Gaskins, who rushed for 150 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries. Gaskins' longest rush was for an incredible 75 yards.
Providence Day was led to victory by Jaylen Himes and Jadyn Davis. Himes picked up 104 receiving yards and four touchdowns, while Davis threw for 249 yards and five touchdowns while completing 85.7% of his passes. Channing Goodwin also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Metrolina Christian Academy's loss was their fourth straight on the road , which bumped their record down to 5-6. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 12-0 Rabun Gap-Nacoochee and 6-3 Asheville School (Independent) (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 75.8% over those games). As for Providence Day, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-1.
Metrolina Christian Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Providence Day will be playing in front of their home fans against Charlotte Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Charlotte Christian is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
