The IC Catholic Prep Knights will face off against the Aurora Central Catholic Chargers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. IC Catholic Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
IC Catholic Prep had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 18-run drubbing they dealt Trinity on Saturday. The Knights never let the Blazers get on the board and left with an 18-0 victory. The Knights have beaten the Blazers the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Blazers has come to flipping the script.
Lexi Russ was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with seven RBI, four runs, and three doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted over her last 11 games. The team also got some help courtesy of Ariani Zito, who went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases and three runs.
IC Catholic Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .618. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Aurora Central Catholic had just enough and edged out De La Salle 4-3 on Monday.
Corina Miller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kate Gambro, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Sophia Delgado, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Aurora Central Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for IC Catholic Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 14-9.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. IC Catholic Prep hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .379. However, it's not like Aurora Central Catholic struggles in that department as they've averaged .344. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
IC Catholic Prep beat Aurora Central Catholic 9-4 when the teams last played back in April. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Chargers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
