After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Liberty, the Hazen Highlanders were happy to have found some success on Monday. They managed a 60-55 victory over Newport - Bellevue. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Hazen's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Dakota Nap, who scored 17 points along with 9 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of India Andrews, who scored 18 points.
Several Knights players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Portia Polo, who scored 25 points along with 6 assists and 6 rebounds. Polo scored a full 45.5% of Newport - Bellevue's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Megan Roberts was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.
The victory got Hazen back to even at 2-2. As for Newport - Bellevue, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.
Hazen will be playing at home against Mercer Island at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Newport - Bellevue, they will head out on the road to face off against Eastlake at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
