The Auburn Trojans waltzed into their match Thursday with two straight wins but they left with three. They escaped with a win against Kentridge by the margin of a single free throw, 42-41. Despite the win, that was the fewest points Auburn has scored all season.
Kentridge lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Sydney Esperanza, who scored 16 points along with four steals. Those 16 points set a new season-high mark for her. Jayla Keowla was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds.
Auburn's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Kentridge, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-3 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Auburn will take on Curtis at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Curtis will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Washington Rankings (they are ranked 230th, while Auburn is ranked 37th). Kentridge won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Notre Dame Prep at 2:00 p.m. on December 29th. Notre Dame Prep is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last eight games.
