The Clopton Hawks will take on the Silex Owls at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
While Clopton didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-11), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on Elsberry with a sharp 11-5 win on Thursday. The victory was nothing new for the Hawks as they're now sitting on four straight.
Peter Daskalakis made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Tucker Salmons was a standout: he scored a run and stole four bases while going 2-for-3. Salmons is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Adam Lindsay was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Silex). Everything went their way against Mark Twain on Monday as they made off with a 17-5 win. The Owls haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Like Clopton, Silex also got a great game from a two-way player: Joe Dameron. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Dameron was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game.
In other batting news, Chase Mullen was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Jack Johnson, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-5.
Silex always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Clopton's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Silex, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Clopton couldn't quite get it done against Silex when the teams last played back in March of 2024 as they fell 7-3. Will the Hawks have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
