The Wink Wildcats waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with six straight wins but they left with seven. They strolled past Fort Hancock with points to spare, taking the game 53-38. That's another feather in the cap for Wink, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Aizlyn Dewberry was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 26 rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Delaney Dodd-fernandes, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Fort Hancock lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Alessandra Jimenez, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. Jimenez has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 17 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Marisol Diaz, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds.
Wink is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 16 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. As for Fort Hancock, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wink will take on McCamey at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. McCamey has now lost 11 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 1. As for Fort Hancock, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Anthony at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Anthony is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
