The Thurston Colts are taking a road trip to challenge the Canby Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Thurston comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
Thurston managed to slip by West Albany the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Colts came up short against the Bulldogs on Tuesday, falling 16-1.
Thurston saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Syren Ferguson, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Canby made easy work of Lebanon on Tuesday and carried off a 17-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won three games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Presley Ricksger made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Katelyn Vissers was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2025. Summer St. John was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Canby always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lebanon only posted an OBP of .214.
The victory made it two in a row for Canby and bumps their season record up to 3-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Thurston, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.
Thurston was able to grind out a solid victory over Canby in their previous meeting back in April of 2025, winning 5-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Colts since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
