The Capuchino Mustangs will take on the Mills Vikings at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Capuchino will be strutting in after a win while Mills will be coming in after a loss.
Capuchino is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand St. Ignatius College Preparatory a 10-0 shutout on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Mustangs needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Lily Thomas made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dana Motroni, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one triple. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn Staff, who went 1-for-3 with three runs.
Capuchino was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Mills' good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell 10-6 to San Mateo. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Vikings, who until this game were averaging 3.43 runs allowed.
Jazzlyn Maske was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. That stolen base was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucy Esquivel, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Capuchino's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Mills, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-2.
Capuchino beat Mills 11-7 when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Vikings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
