Northwestern is on a three-game streak of home losses, the Cougars a six-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. The Northwestern Trojans will take on the York Cougars at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Last Tuesday, it was a hard-fought game, but Northwestern had to settle for a 53-50 defeat against the Warriors. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Northwestern in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now lost four in a row.
Meanwhile, York struggled with assists on Wednesday (the Copperheads had 11 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. York took a serious blow against the Copperheads, falling 75-45. While losing is never fun, York can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 184th, while the Copperheads are ranked sixth).
Bryson Steele put forth a good effort for the losing side as he almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jaxon Wilkins-Graham, who scored four points.
Northwestern has not been sharp recently as the team's lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-13 record this season. As for York, their loss dropped their record down to 5-15.
Everything went Northwestern's way against the Cougars in their previous matchup back in January as the Trojans made off with a 71-50 victory. Will Northwestern repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
