4A Northern recap Oct. 30, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Mountain View, who took down 64th ranked Mountain View, 23-7. David Eddy ran for 245 yards in the win.
Windsor's Joe Sanger recorded the longest rushing play in 4A Northern this season in his game against Niwot last week. Sanger ran for 81 yards on the play and finished with 161 on the day as his team topped the Cougars.
Niwot's dynamic duo of Nathan Merriman and Elijah Noterman proved tough for Windsor to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Merriman threw for 282 yards and two touchdowns and Noterman had 148 yards receiving. Cahill Kelleghan helped Niwot's passing attack out by catching four balls for 58 yards.
Sean McAvoy made the biggest impact on defense this week as Chris Jones' team bested Josh Brewer's team. The 5-foot-10 senior forced one fumble and grabbed 3.5 sacks.
The Cougars' Merriman and Noterman have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Merriman has thrown for 1953 yards this season, while Noterman, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 31 catches for 644 yards. The Wizards' Sanger leads the league in rushing yards with 1013.
Eddy of the Greeley West is only 32 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Eddy has rushed for 968 yards on 158 carries so far this year.
Going into this week's game against Thompson Valley, Niwot's Merriman needs 47 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Mountain Lions take on Loveland. Mountain View is in second place, while the Indians are in third place.
The Wizards extended the longest winning streak in 4A Northern this week by beating the Cougars, 42-18. The victory was the eighth in a row for the team.
