On Friday, Centerville made easy work of Burton and carried off a 60-35 win. Given Centerville's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 604th, while Burton is ranked 1466th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Wade Neyland, who dropped a double-double on 31 points and ten rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Centerville's points. Zach Waters was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds.
Centerville has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. As for Burton, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season.
Centerville will head out on the road to face off against Groveton at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Groveton is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak. As for Burton, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Leon at 6:00 p.m. on January 9th. Leon is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses.
