Basketball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for American

American won the last time they faced Sunset and things went their way on Friday too. The American Patriots sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 29-27 victory over the Sunset Knights. That's two games straight that the Patriots have won by exactly two points.

American got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sade Reaves out in front who posted eight points and three steals. The dominant performance gave Reaves a new career-high in points. Allison Pena was another key player, putting up seven points along with ten boards and three blocks.

Sunset lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Gabriela Rojas, who put up eight points and 15 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jazlyn Fleitas, who had four points and 13 rebounds.

The victory was the third in a row for American, bringing their record for this year to 7-1. Those victories didn't necessarily come from the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 23.7 points per game. As for Sunset, their defeat was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. American will head out to challenge Northwestern at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. American's defense has only allowed 24.6 points per game this season, so Northwestern's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Sunset, they will head out on the road to square off against South Miami at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Sunset has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 1-2 during that stretch of close contests.
