Bella Price looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, Jayliana Ortiz was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Brown, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Ponce De Leon had no problem doing just that on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over the Jackets. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Pirates' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
The team relied heavily on Aubrey Murphy, who went 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Kiyann Alford, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Ponce De Leon now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Chipley, their victory bumped their record up to 17-4.
Chipley came out on top in a nail-biter against Ponce De Leon when the teams last played two weeks ago, sneaking past 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
