Softball Recap: Shepaug Valley Has No Trouble Against Gilbert

Shepaug Valley won the last time they faced Gilbert and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Spartans put the hurt on the Yellowjackets with a sharp 18-5 win. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won six matchups by nine runs or more so far this season.

Brianna Johnson and Cameron Tisi made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Johnson tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Tisi struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits. Johnson has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Johnson went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Tisi got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, two triples, and two stolen bases. Those two stolen bases gave Tisi a new career-high.

In other batting news, Shepaug Valley got a massive performance out of Lexi Thomas, who went 2-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Thomas a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Clare Moore, who went 4-for-5 with four runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

Shepaug Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Shepaug Valley has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Gilbert, their loss was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-6.

Shepaug Valley has already played their next contest, a 15-4 defeat against Nonnewaug on the 17th. Gilbert does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
