The Taft Greyhounds waltzed into Friday's matchup with three straight wins but they left with four. They blew past Banquete 46-20. Taft might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won four contests by 22 points or more this season.
JJ Acosta was his usual excellent self, throwing for 415 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 14.8 yards per attempt. Acosta hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for four straight games. Enrique Rodriguez was another key contributor, picking up 191 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Banquete's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Josh Jimenez, who rushed for 84 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries, and also caught a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Trey Espinosa, who rushed for 66 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries.
Taft's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Banquete, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.
Taft will head out on the road to face off against George West at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Banquete, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Santa Rosa on Friday.
