The Alma Cardinals had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.3 points), and they went ahead and made it nine on Tuesday. They escaped with a win against Amherst by the margin of a single free throw, 54-53. For Alma, this counts as revenge for the 54-45 loss Amherst walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2023.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Alma to victory, but perhaps none more so than Addison Siebels, who scored 20 points along with nine rebounds. That's the first time this season that Siebels pulled down eight or more rebounds. Riley Scott was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with five steals.
Alma's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.8 points per game. As for Amherst, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Alma will play host again and welcome Hi-Line [Eustis-Farnam/Elwood], where tip off is scheduled for TBD on Thursday. Hi-Line [Eustis-Farnam/Elwood] comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last four games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Amherst, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Pleasanton at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully Pleasanton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Saturday.
