After both having extra time off, the Waynedale Golden Bears and the Oberlin Phoenix will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
On Thursday, Waynedale didn't have quite enough to beat Smithville and fell 3-2. The Golden Bears haven't had much luck with the Smithies recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Waynedale actually scored more points across those five sets (106-105), but sadly they still had to settle for second. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 17-25, 21-25, 25-22, 17-15.

Waynedale might have lost, but man, Kylie Geiser was a machine: she had 37 digs. Geiser has been hot recently, having posted 13 or more digs the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Mya Spitler, who had 18 digs and one assist.
Meanwhile, Oberlin came up short against Black River on Thursday, falling 3-0.
Oberlin took the loss but they managed to make steady progress, increasing their score in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-13, 25-18, 25-21.
Oberlin's loss dropped their record down to 3-16. As for Waynedale, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-8.
