The Lee County Yellow Jackets will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Eastern Randolph Wildcats at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lee County knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six games -- so hopefully Eastern Randolph likes a good challenge.
While it was all tied up 33-33 at halftime, Lee County was not quite Western Alamance's equal in the second half on Tuesday. Lee County fell 68-59 to Western Alamance. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Monday (55), Lee County still had to take the loss.
Despite the defeat, Lee County saw an underclassman step up: Kamaree Butler scored 27 points along with six rebounds. Butler scored a full 45.8% of Lee County's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nic Farrow, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Eastern Randolph's 29-3 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They were the victim of a tough 71-50 defeat at the hands of Randleman on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Eastern Randolph can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 467th, while Randleman is ranked 181st).
Lee County's loss was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-5. As for Eastern Randolph, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.
Lee County came up short against Eastern Randolph in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, falling 81-77. Can Lee County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
