Moss Point has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Pascagoula Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Winning is just a little bit easier when your three-point shooting is a whole 20% better than the opposition, a fact Moss Point proved on Monday. They walked away with a 49-39 win over Greene County.
Moss Point's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jujuan Nettles, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Quey'sean Taylor, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Pascagoula came tearing into Tuesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down Picayune 67-48. Given Pascagoula's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked fifth, while the Maroon Tide are ranked 41st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Moss Point has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 16-11 record this season. As for Pascagoula, their win bumped their record up to 21-2.
Moss Point came out on top in a nail-biter against the Panthers in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, sneaking past 55-53. The rematch might be a little tougher for Moss Point since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
