Softball Recap: Providence Has No Trouble Against Chadwick

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Tuesday as neither Providence nor Chadwick made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Pioneers were the clear victors by an 11-3 margin over the Dolphins. The Pioneers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.

Madelynn Watts made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, Providence got a big performance out of Evangelina Aleman, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with four RBI and one double. That's the most RBI Aleman has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Gloria Galindo, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

Providence's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Chadwick, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Providence will take on Flintridge Prep at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Wolves will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Pioneers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Chadwick, they will challenge Rio Hondo Prep at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday.
