The Luther Knights will head out on the road to face off against the Sparta Spartans at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Sparta took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Luther, who comes in off a win.
Luther scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 54-28 margin over Black River Falls. Given Luther's advantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 145th, while Black River Falls is ranked 406th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Sparta's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They lost to Reedsburg at home by a decisive 69-50 margin.
Despite their loss, Sparta saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Amelia Russ, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. The match was Russ' third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Elexa Jones, who scored seven points along with five rebounds.
Luther's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Sparta, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.
Luther came up short against Sparta in their previous matchup back in February, falling 50-45. Can Luther avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
