Blake Barney and Tanner Webster provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Canyon View. The connection was good for 74 yards, the longest such play in 3A Region 9 this season.
Desert Hills suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after a 12-7 loss to Stansbury. The Thunder had been ranked 23rd, but fell to 30 following the defeat.
Dixie's dynamic duo of Barney and Webster proved tough for the Falcons to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Barney threw for 289 yards and five touchdowns and Webster had 140 yards receiving. Drew Batchelor helped Dixie's passing attack out by catching two balls for 62 yards.
Prentiss Miller was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 348 yards on 34 carries as Pine View defeated Canyon View. Pano Tiatia also contributed to the rushing game with 14 yards on the ground.
Dixie's Barney and Batchelor have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Barney has thrown for 1662 yards this season, while Batchelor, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 27 catches for 522 yards. Miller from the Panthers leads the league in rushing with 1453 yards.
A big matchup in 3A Region 9 this week will be when Desert Hills takes on Snow Canyon. As it stands, Carl Franke's team is in fourth, while the Warriors are in third.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Thunder take on Snow Canyon. Desert Hills has allowed 93 points this season, while Jay Graft's team has given up 127. The Thunder allowed 12 points last week as they lost to the Stallions.
Hurricane extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Pine View, 30-23. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.
