The Highland Huskies will head out on the road to face off against the Spackenkill Spartans at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Highland will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
Highland let Dover stack five runs on them in the second inning on Wednesday but luckily Highland prevailed anyway. The Huskies narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Dragons 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Huskies have posted since May 15, 2025.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Spackenkill). Everything went their way against Ellenville on Monday as they made off with a 21-2 victory. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Spartans with their most commanding win of the season.
Cadie Hanaburgh made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Ashleigh Burgess was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilly Lindell, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base.
Spackenkill was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ellenville only posted a batting average of .167.
Highland's record is now 4-2. As for Spackenkill, their record now sits at 3-1.
Highland beat Spackenkill 8-3 when the teams last played back in May of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Huskies since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
