Softball Recap: Myrtle Extends Home Winning Streak to Five

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Booneville, Myrtle was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Pine Grove Panthers a 10-0 shutout. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by seven runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Mckensie Wise, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Montana Nichols, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

Myrtle always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .520. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pine Grove only posted an OBP of .125.

Myrtle pushed their record up to 8-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing 7.4 strikeouts in those games compared to only three in the others. As for Pine Grove, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 11-10.

Coincidentally, Myrtle and Pine Grove will both be playing Jumpertown the next time they take the field. Myrtle will head out to face Jumpertown at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, while Pine Grove will head out to face them at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
