Given Deuel's advantage in MaxPreps' South Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while Deubrook is ranked 75th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
When it comes to explaining why Deubrook lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jake Jorenby. Despite the final result, he scored 23 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Landen Johnson, who scored 14 points.
Deuel's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Deubrook, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Deuel will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Redfield at 8:00 p.m. on December 14th. As for Deubrook, they will take on Oldham-Ramona/R at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
