Softball Recap: Desert Takes a Loss

After flying high against Boron last Tuesday, Desert came back down to earth. The Scorpions lost 9-1 to the California City Ravens on Friday. The Scorpions have struggled against the Ravens recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.

Alayna Phillips put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3.

Desert's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 8-4. As for California City, they pushed their record up to 6-6 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Desert has already played their next match, a 15-5 loss against Kern Valley on the 1st. As for California City, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 11-1 victory against Ridgeview on the 29th.
