It was a good run, but the Carver Tigers unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They received a tough blow as they fell 67-53 to Monroe. Carver has not had much luck with Monroe recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Carver's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tony Montgomery, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds. Montgomery hasn't dropped below 15 points for eight straight games. Another player making a difference was Jakobe Caslin, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.
It was another big night for Justin Burns, who scored 23 points along with eight rebounds and five blocks for Monroe. Burns hasn't dropped below two blocks for 13 straight games. Jaquan Maddox was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds and two blocks.
Carver's loss dropped their record down to 19-3. As for Monroe, they pushed their record up to 18-5 with that victory, which was their ninth straight at home.
Carver will take on Dougherty at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Carver focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Tuesday. As for Monroe, they will head out on the road to square off against Columbus at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Columbus will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 172nd, while Monroe is ranked 29th).
