Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for The Y Yuma, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They lost to Gunnison on the road by a decisive 28-14 margin on Saturday. Y's defeat continues a unfortunate trend for the squad, making it four in a row.
Y's loss came despite strong showings from Damien Kosinski and Jonathan Thomson. Kosinski gained 221 total yards and a touchdown, while Thomson rushed for 137 yards.
Y's loss was their fifth straight on the road , which bumped their record down to 3-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 10-0 Banning Lewis Academy and 9-1 Holyoke (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 78% over those games). As for Gunnison, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-1.
Y does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Gunnison will be playing in front of their home fans against Strasburg at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Strasburg's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last six contests.
