Basketball Recap: Waymond Banks' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Mitchell over Burns

Mitchell lost against Burns back in December of 2021 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Tigers fell 58-47 to the Broncs. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 38th in Nebraska, while the Broncs are ranked first in Wyoming).

Mitchell's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Waymond Banks, who posted ten points and seven boards. Banks is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Uriel Jimenez, who put up nine points.

Duggan Kriz went supernova For Burns., going 10-for-25 to rack up 26 points and five rebounds. That's the most points Kriz has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Player #4, who dropped a double-double with ten points and ten boards.

This is the second loss in a row for Mitchell and nudges their season record down to 1-2.

Mitchell wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 53-47 defeat against Lingle-Fort Laramie on the 12th. As for Burns, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 57-45 victory against South on the 12th.
