Baseball Recap: Chincoteague Snaps Five-Game Streak of Losses at Home

Chincoteague won the last time they faced Northampton and things went their way on Thursday too. The Ponies were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over the Yellowjackets.

Kent Reed was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He is becoming a predictor of Chincoteague's success: when he posts at least ten strikeouts the team is 2-1 (and 7-9-1 when he doesn't). Reed was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Micah Bennicoff and Landon Easton did most of the damage at the plate: Bennicoff went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Easton went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave Easton a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jermaine Logan Jr, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Chincoteague always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Chincoteague's win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-10-1. As for Northampton, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-13.
