Cranford is 8-2 against Summit since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Cougars will look to defend their home field against the Hilltoppers at 4:00 p.m. Cranford will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
Cranford had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt New Providence on Saturday. The Cougars were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Pioneers. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Pioneers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Christian Pereira spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Brayden Fry was incredible, firing off two home runs and two stolen bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most home runs he has posted since back in April. Patrick Bendert was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Saturday just wasn't the day for Summit's offense. They lost 10-0 to Johnson on Saturday. The Hilltoppers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Summit also got a good showing from Matt Kurek, who tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Summit saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was TJ Flack, who went 1-for-2 with one double. Connor Moon also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Cranford's win bumped their record up to 10-7. As for Summit, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-11.
Cranford came out on top in a nail-biter against Summit in their previous meeting back in April, sneaking past 4-3. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Hilltoppers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
