Towers and McNair are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2021, but not for long. The Towers Titans will face off against the McNair Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Towers is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 67.1 points per game this season.
Last Thursday, Towers strolled past Southwest Atlanta Christian with points to spare, taking the game 53-37. Given the Titans' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 181st, while the Warriors are ranked 387th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Towers' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jalen Kelly, who posted 19 points in addition to eight boards and four steals. Kelly is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Domyius Mcfarland, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 15 points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Towers smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, McNair was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were beaten by Greenforest 82-39.
Towers will have to contain Kente Taylor as he made an impact in McNair's last game. He went 6 for 9 to rack up 23 points. The dominant performance also gave Taylor a new career-high in three-point shooting accuracy (57%).
Towers has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.7 points over those games. As for McNair, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-19.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Towers and McNair are some of the highest-scoring teams around. Towers hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 67.1 points per game. However, it's not like McNair struggles in that department as they've been averaging 55.9 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can put up more.
Everything came up roses for Towers against McNair when the teams last played back in January, as the team secured an 81-38 win. Will Towers repeat their success, or does McNair have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
