Baseball Game Preview: Scranton Prep Cavaliers vs. Wallenpaupack Area Buckhorns

The Scranton Prep Cavaliers are taking a road trip to face off against the Wallenpaupack Area Buckhorns at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Scranton Prep will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

Scranton Prep had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Scranton on Saturday. The Cavaliers blew past the Knights 11-3. The Cavaliers not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since March 31st (when they won 13-2).

The team relied heavily on Michael DeRichie, who went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Scranton Prep is undefeated when DeRichie posts three or more hits, but 3-11 otherwise. Aiden Straw was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs.

Scranton Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.

Meanwhile, Wallenpaupack Area might've scored the first runs on Saturday, but it was Wyoming Area who claimed the real prize. The Buckhorns fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 11-9. Buckhorns fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Warriors since on Saturday.

Cameron Lynch was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run.

Wallenpaupack Area has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season. As for Scranton Prep, their win bumped their record up to 6-11.

Scranton Prep beat Wallenpaupack Area 9-4 in their previous meeting back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cavaliers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
