Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Amphitheater). They walked away with a 79-66 win over the Rio Rico Hawks on Tuesday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Panthers as it put an end to their ten-game losing streak.
Rio Rico's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Santiago Merino, who posted 22 points and five rebounds. Merino's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Ramsess Bolivar was another key player, going 6 of 11 en route to 14 points and five assists.
Amphitheater's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 5-15. As for Rio Rico, their defeat was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-21.
