After flying high against the Potomac Wolverines last Tuesday, Chesapeake Math & IT Academy South came back down to earth. Chesapeake Math & IT Academy South's tough 67-44 defeat to the Eagles on Thursday might stick with them for a while.
Despite the defeat, Chesapeake Math & IT Academy South saw an underclassman step up: Amaya Johnson scored 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Johnson has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cayla Wiley, who scored 11 points.
Douglass found their leader in underclassman Courtney Smith, who scored 17 points. Smith hasn't dropped below 17 points for four straight games. Mya Ford was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Chesapeake Math & IT Academy South has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-5 record this season. As for Douglass, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-7.
Chesapeake Math & IT Academy South will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Yellowjackets at 7:15 p.m. As for Douglass, they will head out on the road to take on the Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Surrattsville is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
