The Shawnee Mission West Vikings's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They fell to Olathe North 53-49. Shawnee Mission West was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Olathe North apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Olathe North found their leader in underclassman Asia Lee, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Lee also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lailah Austin, who scored eight points along with five assists and three steals.
Shawnee Mission West has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-9-1 record this season. As for Olathe North, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-9.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Shawnee Mission West will take on Shawnee Mission Northwest at TBD on Friday. Shawnee Mission West will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings (they are ranked 223rd, while Shawnee Mission Northwest is ranked 58th). As for Olathe North, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Shawnee Mission North at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Olathe North focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Tuesday.
