Basketball Recap: West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs] Comes Up Short

West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs] was the 49-46 winner over Abingdon/Avon when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs] Cougars took a blow against the Abingdon/Avon Tornadoes on Monday, falling 69-38. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 279th, while the Tornadoes are ranked 46th).

Despite the defeat, West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs] saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ali Little went 7 of 14 on her way to 22 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. Little's afternoon made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Maci Peterson also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

This is the second loss in a row for West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs] and nudges their season record down to 10-10. As for Abingdon/Avon, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-3.

West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs] is facing North Greene at the right time seeing as North Greene is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Abingdon/Avon, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 60-23 victory against Princeville on the 22nd.
