Gray-New Gloucester dropped down to 5-4 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 13-3 to the Poland Knights. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Madalyn Patrick made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Destiny Ayers also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
As for Poland, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 10-2-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.6 runs over those games.
On Poland's side, Karlee Lothrop made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. Lothrop was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Phoebe Paradis was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Carly-Ann Jarvis, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Looking ahead, Gray-New Gloucester will take on Dirigo at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Cougars' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Patriots' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Poland, they will challenge North Yarmouth Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
