The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Big Sandy came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 280th, while Santa Fe is ranked 842nd).
Santa Fe was led to victory by Aidan Jewell and Kenny Torres. Jewell scored 10 points along with 6 rebounds, while Torres dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. The contest was Torres' fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Ryland Chambless, who scored 4 points.
This is the second loss in a row for Big Sandy and nudges their season record down to 6-4. As for Santa Fe, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-7 record this season.
