Basketball Recap: Mulberry Grove Sets Scoring Season-High Against Ramsey

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mulberry Grove). Everything went their way against the Ramsey Rams on Tuesday as the Mulberry Grove Aces made off with an 86-62 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Aces have posted since November 27, 2024.

Mulberry Grove got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jackson Icenogle out in front who went 12 of 14 on his way to 31 points. The game was Icenogle's sixth in a row with at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Landon Sugg, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and ten boards.

Mulberry Grove smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive matches.

Despite the defeat, Ramsey had strong showings from Aaron Trexler, who went 7 for 9 en route to 18 points, and Waylon Williams, who went 6 of 10 to rack up 15 points. Trexler is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last three games he's played. Owen Warner also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Mulberry Grove is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-16 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.0 points over those games. As for Ramsey, their loss was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-22.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mulberry Grove will take on Farina South Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Ramsey, they will square off against Patoka at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
