The Elmira Express's and the Maine-Endwell Spartans's game on Friday was close at halftime, but the Elmira Express turned on the heat in the second half with 31 points. Elmira blew past Maine-Endwell 59-39. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Elmira also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2022.
Mariah Matias went supernova for Elmira, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds. Ashaya Wallace was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Elmira's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Maine-Endwell, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-1.
Elmira won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Owego Free Academy at 6:00 p.m. on December 2nd. Maine-Endwell will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Elmira at 6:45 p.m. on December 13th. Hopefully Elmira focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on December 9th.
