Defeat or not, Thomas Jefferson Science & Technology got some senior leadership from Kaiden Kerkulah and Abigail Lee. Kerkulah dropped a double-double on 13 points and 16 boards, while Lee posted 14 points and seven rebounds. That's the most boards Kerkulah has posted since back in December of 2023. Manya Yellepeddy was another key player, putting up seven points.
Even though they lost, Thomas Jefferson Science & Technology smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Briar Woods unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They received a blow as they fell 50-31 to Heritage. The contest marked the Falcons' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Despite the loss, Briar Woods saw an underclassman step up: freshman Rianna D'Souza had six points. D'Souza is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games.
Thomas Jefferson Science & Technology's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-2. As for Briar Woods, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Thomas Jefferson Science & Technology has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 34 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Briar Woods struggles in that department as they've been averaging 20.9 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
