The Alamo Heights Mules waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with 16 straight wins but they left with 17. They walked away with a 60-49 victory over Sam Houston. Given Alamo Heights' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 118th, while Sam Houston is ranked 932nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Alamo Heights got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Hayes Waddy out in front who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Waddy is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of John Budenholzer, who scored 11 points along with five assists.
Alamo Heights pushed their record up to 21-3 with that victory, which was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.5 points per game. As for Sam Houston, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-18.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Alamo Heights will square off against Edison at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Edison has now lost 11 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 18. As for Sam Houston, they will head out on the road to take on Highlands at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
