Basketball Recap: Jerome Hill and Jordan Watson Secure Win for the Carmel School

The Carmel School won the last time they faced Cristo Rey and things went their way on Saturday too. The Carmel School Wildcats came out on top against the Cristo Rey Royals by a score of 76-66. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 99th, while the Royals are ranked 340th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

The Carmel School was led to victory by Jordan Watson and Jerome Hill. Watson went 7 of 14 on his way to 19 points and three steals, while Hill went 7 for 9 en route to 16 points. Those 16 points gave Hill a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Nicolo Passalacqua, who went 5 of 12 en route to 11 points and five boards.

Cristo Rey's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jemell Smith, who posted 19 points. Another player making a difference was Jab Scott, who scored 16 points.

The Carmel School has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 32.3% in those games and 26.2% outside of them. As for Cristo Rey, their loss dropped their record down to 1-16.

The Carmel School will head out on the road to face off against Veritas Collegiate Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cristo Rey, they will challenge Life Christian Academy at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Cristo Rey is facing Life Christian Academy at the right time seeing as Life Christian Academy is stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
