Alex Messer made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Messer wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Connor Portelli, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Portelli also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Another was Tyler Lumley, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Duval Charter kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Christ's Church Academy made sure to put some runs up on the board against Crescent City on Tuesday. Christ's Church Academy never let Crescent City get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won five matches by 11 runs or more so far this season.
Jacob Ligmanowski looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Christ's Church Academy is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-5 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Christ's Church Academy got a massive performance out of Kaleb Robor, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Drew Erickson was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
Duval Charter's record now sits at 5-2. As for Christ's Church Academy, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Duval Charter has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Christ's Church Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
