After a string of three wins, the Mt. Vernon Rams's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell 50-41 to Jersey. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Mt. Vernon came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 54th, while the Panthers are ranked 351st).
When it comes to explaining why Mt. Vernon lost, one person who can't be blamed is Navontae D nesbit jr.. Despite the final result, he scored 17 points along with six rebounds. D nesbit jr. has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last 12 times he's played. Cale Maurer was another key contributor, scoring four points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Jersey's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from John paul Vogel, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Herkert, who scored 14 points.
Mt. Vernon's loss dropped their record down to 19-7. As for Jersey, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-16.
