The East Lake Eagles on the road again on Monday and play against the Land O' Lakes Gators at 7:45 p.m. on January 22nd. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Last Friday, East Lake ended up a good deal behind Wesley Chapel and lost 66-52.
Despite their loss, East Lake saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Anthony Brown, who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Brown has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times he's played. Brody Church was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Land O' Lakes' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They suffered a tough 74-50 defeat at the hands of Wiregrass Ranch. While losing is never fun, Land O' Lakes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 412th, while Wiregrass Ranch is ranked 47th).
East Lake's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-6. As for Land O' Lakes, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season.
Everything came up roses for East Lake against Land O' Lakes when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as the squad secured a 76-44 victory. With East Lake ahead 60-17 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
