After a string of six wins, The Antonian Prep Apaches''s good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a hard 42-24 fall against St. Thomas Catholic. While losing is never fun, Antonian Prep can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 281st, while St. Thomas Catholic is ranked 85th).
Despite the loss, Antonian Prep still got an impressive performance from Jayce Toscano, who threw for 234 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground.
Johann Cardenas was his usual excellent self, rushing for 275 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry. Cardenas is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last eight games he's played. Another player making a difference was Mason Hartwell, who rushed for 36 yards and a touchdown.
Another reason for the win was St. Thomas Catholic's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for 5.5 sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Dominic Ori and Jack Reid who racked up four sacks between them.
Antonian Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 8-2. As for St. Thomas Catholic, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 10-0.
Antonian Prep will have plenty of time to ponder what went wrong as they've got a bye scheduled next week. After, they'll take on Trinity Christian at 6:00 p.m. on November 17th. Trinity Christian will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last. St. Thomas Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
