Basketball Recap: Kayley Marten and Brilynn Fleming Secure Win for Crest Ridge

Crest Ridge hadn't done well against Wellington-Napoleon recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Everything went the Crest Ridge Cougars' way against the Wellington-Napoleon Tigers as the Crest Ridge Cougars made off with a 55-32 victory. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 23 points or more this season.

Leading Crest Ridge to victory were Brilynn Fleming and Kayley Marten. Fleming posted 17 points in addition to eight assists and six rebounds, while Marten went 5 of 12 on her way to 12 points along with five boards and four steals. Those four steals gave Marten a new career-high. Laney Wilhite was another key player, putting up eight points and seven boards.

Crest Ridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive matchups.

Wellington-Napoleon's loss came despite strong showings from Kale Garland and Brilynn Zykan. Garland scored seven points, while Zykan put up seven points and eight rebounds. Garland continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.

Crest Ridge pushed their record up to 10-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points per game. As for Wellington-Napoleon, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Crest Ridge will square off against Lexington at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lexington will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Crest Ridge surely won't give up without a fight.
